I'm sitting in front of the bottom half of a vertical diptych. I'd been sick as a dog all week, and this was the first day I started feeling human again. I'm wearing my grandfather's cardigan. The piece in the photo is part of a new body of work I'm calling "simulation paintings." They sort of look like silk screens or Xeroxes. When this picture was taken, I hadn't yet painted the top half of the diptych. Now it's done, and I think it's one of my best. That's always a nice feeling. It never lasts very long, so I'm trying to enjoy it.
