In my studio in New Mexico, working on the sound installations, Days and Giorni, that will be exhibited in the 2009 Venice Biennale as part of my exhibition, Topological Gardens for the American Pavilion. I first wrote a text in which the days of the week are subjected to a series of permutations. I wrote two subtly varying scripts in English for "Days" that were then translated into Italian for "Giorni." Each of the two versions was read aloud by participants and recorded as audio tracks for the individual works. In this photograph, the flat, white, square speakers that comprise the installation of Days and Gioni hang behind me.
