MoMA did a Dada exhibition a couple of years ago that I really loved. I ended up visiting it whenever I was in midtown, even just to stop in to watch the films. I identified more with that work than anything I'd seen in a long time, so I realized I needed to go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to see the Duchamp room.
That's when I first saw the Étant Donnés piece. It was incredible to see it in person after looking at it in books for so many years. I was there for three days and went every day to see it again and again. When I was younger I remember taking a Duchamp book out of the library just because we shared the same first name.
