Most of what I do in my life is diaristic, which means improvised on the spot. Like this picture. It made no sense to take a picture indoors when there was this beautiful snowstorm going on outside. I'm in a parking lot next door to my studio, one of the graffiti artists' favored spots. My work for the upcoming Whitney Biennial? Even at the moment this picture is being taken, or rather, that I am typing this note, I do not yet know what I'll show at the Whitney. I will improvise and decide at the last minute. That's how I live and that's how I work. No advance plans. That makes life (if not art) more interesting, as Buddha once said.
